About the Project
A New Life for an Aging Outdoor Space
The homeowner wanted to restore the appearance and functionality of a large outdoor deck and two elevated balconies. Years of exposure to the elements had left the original wooden decking with peeling paint, worn surfaces, and visible deterioration.
Rather than completely rebuilding the outdoor structures, the renovation focused on replacing the aging surfaces and updating key exterior elements.
Deck Resurfacing, New Railings & Stair Improvements
The renovation involved removing the deteriorated wooden decking and installing new Trex composite boards across the main deck and two elevated balconies.
All existing railings were replaced, restoring a consistent appearance throughout the outdoor structures. The exterior staircase also received targeted repairs, including replacement of the upper portions of the stair treads.
Throughout the renovation, special attention was given to maintaining the existing layout and creating clean transitions between the new decking and surrounding structures.
The Result
The result is a refreshed outdoor living space that combines warm-toned composite decking with new white railings, complementing the home’s stone exterior and architecture.
The renovation transformed the look of the main deck and balconies without changing their original footprint. With approximately 450 square feet of decking on the main terrace alone, this project demonstrates how replacing worn outdoor surfaces can make a significant visual difference.
